“Buono is by far one of the best restaurants in Ranong!” @heath.os
In as much as I love Thai food, at times I find myself in need of a western/ southern flavor fix! The one thing that is certainly not abundant in Thailand is real BEEF so I was delighted to hear of a place with amazing service, a relaxed ambiance perfect for a good read on a Sunday afternoon and oh, real BEEF and LAMB on the menu!
“They” say that when traveling, if you want to find a good restaurant, go where the locals go! I say, in Thailand, if you want to find a good western restaurant, go where the “farangs” tell you to go! (“Farang” – A Thai word used to refer to a European or other foreigners)! Buono certainly lives up to its reputation, absolutely fantastic overall!
This was my second visit to this beautifully garden themed eatery and since I was deeply craving some ‘nama’, I chose a lamb and blue cheese burger. (‘Nama’, a Setswana word for meat, one of our 11 official languages in South Africa – my mother tongue.). Have you ever had an out of body experience the minute you bit into a burger?!!! The last time I felt this way about a burger was in Cape Town, South Africa at a gem called Royale situated at the top of Long Street in town. That Buono burger though – the meat was fresh and well seasoned and of course, blue cheese always elevates the flavor in a meat burger. I added some of the mustard that was on the side and when I took the first bite, I had that halo moment with angels harmonizing in the background kind of feeling!
The restaurant is owned by a lovely gentleman called Wech who has been runnin the place for 4 years. He is also the resident chef at the restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised to hear that he is a self taught cook! So humble and laid back, he even spared time to share his journey with us. I believe that if you do what you love, you will never have to ‘work’ a day in your life – passion fuels the soul!
Now before I end this post, let me take a moment to talk about the chocolate pasta with melted white chocolate and ice cream dessert I chose to indulge in! It’s a delicious chocolate crepe cut like linguine pasta, not too sweet and just perfect. The combination of the ‘pasta’, ice cream and the melted white chocolate sauce is a dream! A must try!
For anyone who is visiting Ranong town and wants to experience this amazing place, it’s quite deep into town so use Google Maps if you can, it will take you straight to it or else search ‘Buono@Ranong’ on Facebook and get their details.
Blessed Sunday Loved Ones!
